Hyperhidrosis is a disease in which the body produces excessive and uncontrollable sweat regardless the external temperature. Strong odors and visible discoloration of clothes are undesired side effects. Prior to surgical removal of the sweat glands, other conservative methods (e.g. Botox, iontophoresis etc.) have to be tried.
Indications: excessive sweating of armpits.
Duration of the operation: on both sides about 2 hours
Type of anaesthesia: local anesthetic
Outpatient treatment
Operation
Subcutaneous curettage of sweat glands: underarm hyperhidrosis can be eliminated by sucking the sweat glands after injection of liquid. The success depends on diligence of the sweat gland removal. The effect can wear off after a few years, because the nerve endings partially achieve the remaining sweating.
After the operation:
Slight physical strain after about a week
Moderate exercise after 3 weeks
Full sporting activities (especially with the use of arms) after 1 month.
