Sagging and loss of elasticity in the breast tissue due to pregnancy, weight loss or aging, and ptotic nipples are restored by mastopexy that ensures a beautiful, lasting contour.
Indications:
Sagging and loss of elasticity in the breast tissue due to pregnancy, weight loss or aging. When the breasts drop, the position of the nipples also changes.
In cases of great volume loss, it is advisable to insert an implant as well, in order to ensure a beautiful, lasting contour.
Duration of the procedure: 2 – 3 hours depending on the preoperative findings
Type of anaesthesia: general anaesthetic
Outpatient treatment or Inpatient treatment in more severe cases and for patients at particular risk
Operation
The ideal nipple position should be at approximately the middle of the upper arms. Before the operation, patient and doctor plan together the optimal size of the breasts according to the patient’s wishes, taking into consideration the original shape and size of the breasts.
During the breast lift the saggy breast tissue is remodeled and raised together with the nipples. The areola, which is usually over-sized as well, is reduced to about 4 cm in diameter. The method of choice for breast-lift varies depending on the preoperative findings.
The foremost objective is to create symmetrical, round, firm breasts by means of an incision that will produce minimally visible scars. For relatively small breasts the incision merely runs around the areola. (Benelli technique), for relatively large breasts the incision runs around the areola and then vertically down the midline of the breast to the inframammary fold (Lejour technique). For even larger breasts an L-form technique ensures an unscarred cleavage.
For patients without sufficient breast tissue, breast augmentation is performed at the same time, using a silicone implant.
After the operation:
Wear a support bra for 3 months
Sutures are removed after 2 weeks
Wound scar care begins after suture removal
Avoid physical strain for 3 weeks
Avoid sports involving the use of arms for 2 – 3 months.
