Rhinoplasty

RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty means nose reshaping. The nose is the most prominent feature of the human face and is a very important organ in terms of appearance and respiration. Interventions on the nose should be planned with all aspects and must be performed in a delicate manner. By means of aesthetic nose surgery, the size of the nose may be reduced, the shape of the tip end can be changed, nostrils can be narrowed or expanded and the angle between the upper lip to the nose can be changed.

Indications:

  • deformations of the nose shape (congenital or post-injury)
  • reshaping of crooked nose dorsal hump
  • saddleback deformity
  • bulky nose tip
  • rhinophyma (ruddy, bulbous nose)

Duration of the procedure: from 1 to 3 hours depending on the preoperative findings

Type of anaesthesia: general anaesthetic, only minor corrections are carried out using local anaesthetic

Outpatient treatment only for minor corrections. All other under medical supervision for 24 hours.

Operation

The operation is carefully and individually planned and performed on the basis of findings. The procedure is carried out either from inside the nose – so that there will be no visible external scars – or from the columella of the nose (leaving a practically invisible scar).

At the end of the operation the soft tissues are realigned to the new nose structure and the incisions are sutured. The nostrils are packed with special tampons to control bleeding. The nose is protected by a plaster splint, which may extend to the forehead and cheeks.

Additional interventions, such as chin augmentation or reduction may also be advised by the plastic surgeon and can be combined with rhinoplasty in order to achieve an attractive facial profile.

 After the operation:

Apply cold compresses to your forehead and cheeks for 15 minutes every two hours to limit the swelling and bruising.

Keep your head raised to reduce swelling.

Use the recommended nose drops and creams to reduce edema and crusts inside the nose and ease breathing.

Sutures (if needed) are removed after 5 – 7 days.

After a week, the plaster is removed and replaced by a soft tape for 1 more week.

Avoid strenuous activities such as sports for 4 -6 weeks.
